Atin Mehra, born and raised in Varanasi, India, is a Los Angeles-based filmmaker with over two decades of experience in storytelling through the lens.
Beginning his career as a still photographer in 1999, Atin’s keen ability to connect with individuals and
uncover compelling narratives naturally evolved into a career in filmmaking.
In 2002, Atin directed and shot his first short film, Mitti ke Jivan (The Cycle of Clay), which explored the life of a potter from a lower caste (Kumbhar)
who creates clay cups that are used once and then discarded, reflecting deep-seated societal divides.
In 2007, he founded Orange Kite Productions, with a vision to produce feminist, humanistic, and socially impactful films.
In 2020, Atin and his wife and producing partner, Mae Thornton Mehra, co-founded the nonprofit Thriving Roots Initiative,
which aims to further their mission of creating social impact through documentary filmmaking.
The initiative focuses on amplifying underrepresented voices and stories that inspire positive change.
Since 2019, Atin has worked on two ongoing documentary projects, Seize the Day and Eternal Fire Keepers: A Portrait from Within.
His 2022 documentary Being Michelle—a powerful exploration of justice and inclusion for Deaf and Disabled people
within the criminal justice system—has received widespread acclaim, winning numerous awards on the festival circuit.
The film is poised to inspire systemic change both in the U.S. and globally.
Atin is also co-directing Her Song with Mae Thornton Mehra, a documentary film in progress since 2009.
Together, they remain committed to using storytelling as a tool to address inequality and foster empathy.
Atin collaborates with independent filmmakers and businesses as a Director of Photography and Editor.
He also produces videos for nonprofits, corporations, musicians, and artists, with a client portfolio that includes
Sony, Infosys, MTV, New York University, Tommy Hilfiger, Dear World Foundation, and Exodus Film Group.
Through his work, Atin continues to amplify meaningful stories
that spark dialogue and inspire change.

"I shot Picture-in-Picture content for the Department of Developmental Services on HCBS Final Rule / The Animated Series. The series features characters like Lorenzo, Maya, Dexter, Steven, and superhero Lanterman, who share stories to explain the rights of individuals receiving Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS). Designed to equip regional centers, service providers, and the broader community, the series illustrates the ten federal requirements of the HCBS Final Rule. Each episode was translated into 20 languages, including ASL, to ensure accessibility and inclusivity."

EDITING / GRAPHICS
Atin Mehra has 15+ years experience editing videos and promotional material for businesses and nonprofits. Additionally he has edited short films and web series and works as an assistant editor on feature films. Atin edits on AVID, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro and creates graphics using Adobe Photoshop and Pages. Atin performs basic color grading for film/video projects using DaVinci Resolve.
